Caspers Hot Dogs, which has been in the Bay Area for nearly 90 years, is closing one of its seven restaurants due to rising costs.

Caspers co-owner Ron Dorian explained that he and co-owner Paul Rustigian decided not to renew the lease at the Walnut Creek location due to rent rising after the pandemic. Dorian and Rustigian are cousins and the third generation of their family to run Caspers.

"Unfortunately the rising cost of doing business in Walnut Creek exceeded the abilities of companies such as ours that sells a hot dog as our primary product," Caspers co-owner Ron Dorian told SFGATE.may no longer be 25 cents like it was in 1949, it's still only $4.99 at the Walnut Creek location. Caspers has been a Bay Area institution since the late 1930s, a reliable, no-frills destination for a bargain lunch. The Walnut Creek location was the most recent one to open, back in 1983.

Dorian noted that"nobody's happy" about the closure, but pointed out that the Pleasant Hill Caspers is only about a 10-minute drive away. And there's nothing to worry about as far as the longevity of the business as a whole.
