Broccoli, just one of the many vegetables in Central Texas' fall garden, should be ready by Thanksgiving if it was planted in early October.In my opinion, this is the most exciting time to garden in Central Texas. You have the potential for a full vegetable garden, as well as some remarkably beautiful and interesting plants for color.
My favorite color plants for the winter garden include fall aster, mint, marigold, cyclamen, stocks and sweet peas.The drought continues and the bird population relies on the availability of water from birdbaths and other water sources from area gardeners. Keep watering trees and shrubs that have been planted in the last two years because of the drought and our area's limited poor soil.Fall aster only blooms for about three weeks in late fall, but it makes an impression, becoming the center of attention because of its mound of blooms. This is especially the case if the mound of blooms is planted in full sun on the edge of the lot, where the sidewalk intersects with the road.
