It has a wonderfully creamy, slightly sweet, slightly salty flavor profile.
. I grabbed a pile of salad ingredients and dashed home to put that dressing to work.
I tossed together a simple salad of iceberg, mizuna, tomatoes, and shredded carrot, and drizzled the dressing all over. I immediately realized that gomadare and goma dressing were not actually the same thing. For one, the dressing wasn’t smooth like the gomadare I’d had in restaurants. Instead, it had bits of crushed sesame seeds in it, a welcome addition of crunchy texture. The dressing was also somewhat sweeter, and tangier, owing to the inclusion of vinegar.
Finding my beloved sesame dressing became difficult after I moved back to the states. I’d stock up any time I found it in an Asian market, but I knew I needed to figure out how to make it myself. I tried a lot of cookbook recipes, but could never find one that tasted like either the gomadare I’d had in restaurants, or my precious Kewpie-brand sesame dressing.
