New York City's annual Pride March is Sunday, and leading it off will be Randy Wicker, a man who has been fighting for gay rights long before the Stonewall Riots of 1969. FOX 5 New York hears his story.For so many members of the LGBTQ+ community— especially those of a certain generation— a gay bar was the only place you could go where you weren’t compelled to lie about who you were.
But the gay bar of the past was much different than the one we think of today, every inch covered in rainbow flags. Lustbader says that was all because of New York's laws. After prohibition, New York formed the State Liquor Authority, which had a regulation telling bar owners they could lose their license if they served "disorderly people."
