There is only one game left on the NFL schedule — and two long, cold weeks to fill with content before that game is actually played. That daunting reality is how you get takes that are simultaneously scorching and inane. For example: Brock Purdy is soft for leaving the NFC title game after Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick damaged his elbow so badly he may need reconstructive surgery.
That's where WFAN's Al Dukes and Gregg Giannotti landed Monday morning on the"Boomer and Gio Show." They barely managed to get their take off over the laughter of Boomer Esiason, who was actually an NFL quarterback. "I felt like he was making a business decision," Dukes said of Purdy not trying to push the ball downfield with the long rope of tagliatelle attached to his right shoulder."Like 'eh, I'm the new quarterback, not gonna hurt myself for the rest of my career. I'll sit this one out.'"
Purdy's explanation that he couldn't throw the ball more than a few yards downfield was good enough for notorious taskmaster Kyle Shanahan but not for the New York radio hosts. To Esiason's disbelief, Giannotti compared Purdy's shredded elbow to an injury the host once suffered playing softball."I tried," Giannotti said."And that's the thing that Brock Purdy did not do.
