“These wind floors are performative,” Gregg Pasquarelli, founding principal at SHoP, told CNN. “We took advantage (of the space).”

Naked to the elements, the covered floor will be most utilized during the warmer months as any basketball court, Pasquarelli said.Pasquarelli and the SHoP team took inspiration from one of their previous designs —- the Brooklyn Nets’ home arena, Barclays Center, on Atlantic Avenue, which opened in 2012 and is just blocks away from the Brooklyn Tower.

“We definitely took cues from how we designed the Barclays Center,” Pasquarelli told CNN, noting the gray, black and white color scheme and floor design.
