Sewell’s abrupt resignation only latest political storm for Adams as NYC struggles with migrant, housing crises
Edward Caban, who currently serves as the NYPD’s first deputy commissioner, is among the names being floated to replace Commissioner Keechant Sewell.The former inspector — who sources say is notably close with Hizzoner — has been with the NYPD for more than three decades and has served as the top cop’s deputy since Adams took office in January 2022.
Sewell’s decision to step down after 18-months on the job was said to have blindsided City Hall, according to sources.
