A third man, who has been wanted since August, was charged with accessory in the murder of 21-year-old Donald Stanifer in 2020.
OAKLAND — A longtime suspect in the disposal of a 21-year-old homicide victim’s body has been charged with accessory, after police say they found his DNA on the victim’s car, court records show.
Ezekiel Akil-Espinoza, 23, was arrested Nov. 18 and charged with helping at least two others dispose of the body of Alameda resident Donald Stanifer, court records show. Prosecutors allege that in July 2020 Stanifer was stabbed to death after meeting his killer at house party in the East Bay, and that his body was dumped in the Huckleberry Preserve until a hiker discovered it days later.
Two others, Elijah Jordan-Brooks, 22, of Pittsburg and Marquise Johnson-Simon, 23, of Oakland, were arrested in connection with Stanifer’s death. Johnson-Simon was charged with murdering Stanifer but earlier this year, leaving only the accessory count. Jordan-Brooks still faces a murder charge, and is awaiting trial, records show.
Akil-Espinoza has had an active arrest warrant since last August, according to court records. He was arrested Nov. 18 in Hayward and remains in county jail on a no bail hold. He is due in court Tuesday to enter a plea. After that, one of the first orders of business will be for a judge to decide whether to keep him in custody or set bail. Johnson-Simon was released from jail last September, records show.
