Former Marty's Valley Inn starts new life as affordable rooms
The former Marty’s Valley Inn, once one of Oceanside’s best-known and most popular motels, has received the city’s approval to operate as a “single-room occupancy” hotel, a form of affordable housing intended for people with low or minimal incomes.
“This is a great location for this project,” Oceanside Planning Commissioner Louise Balma said Monday, before the commission vote 4-0 to approve a conditional use permit for the facility. Interior improvements include all-new countertops, flooring, appliances, paint, and energy-efficient lighting. Each unit will have a bathroom, storage space, and a partial kitchen with cooking and refrigeration facilities.
The Vista Group operates 14 residential properties with more than 1,200 units in California, Schifman said. All the sites have security services and live-in managers. Some improvements such as exterior painting have been completed, Schifman said. More extensive renovation can take place now that the city has approved the conditional use permit.
