When the Michelin-honored, San Juan Capistrano-born restaurant opened a local outlet in January, it was missing the key menu item that diners most craved. Not anymore.
Last January, Heritage Barbecue & Brewery opened with great fanfare in Oceanside. It was the first expansion location for the San Juan Capistrano restaurant, which earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2021 for its justifiably famous Texas-style slow-smoked meats.
Ari Valenzuela, pitmaster at Heritage Barbecue & Brewery in Oceanside, shows off some of the restaurant’s famous brisket. The menu superstar is the brisket, which is cooked to fork-tender perfection with a delectable and crispy burnt ends crust. The pulled pork is also tender and juicy. The pork ribs are meaty and flavor-packed, as well. I also recommend the half-pound smoked brisket burger, which is one of the most flavorful burgers in San Diego County. And the brisket tacos, served on house-made tortillas, are terrific.
