Parents of Somerset ISD students were alerted after two students were found to be in possession of a toy gun.
Two students were found in possession of a toy gun at Somerset High School on Wednesday, officials said.A San Antonio-area school district sent a text message to parents warning them about the dangers of bringing a toy gun to school after two students attempting to skip school were found to be in possession of one.on Wednesday. A text sent to parents from the school district regarding the incident was shared Wednesday on social media.
"This is the first time we've found a toy gun during a routine search," Martinez told the Express-News in an email. In the text message, Somerset ISD advised parents that toy guns are prohibited and that the district takes all matters seriously. "Toy guns are prohibited from school environments because, at first glance, there is no telling if the toy gun is in fact a toy gun," Martinez said."Police need to know what they are working with to respond accordingly. A toy gun can also raise anxiety among students and teachers. We take all matters seriously, whether it be toy guns or joking threats."
Martinez said the students were caught attempting to skip school in their car. A school police officer stopped them and asked if there was anything in the car he should be made aware of, and that is when the students showed the officer the gun.
