Ahead of Chet Holmgren's rookie season, Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault had some comments regarding the 7-footer's position, impact and skillset.
playing center used to be blasphemous in the NBA. With a height advantage big enough to tower over even some of the league's top talents, it would make sense why.In today's NBA, that answer is simple: you don't need to. And for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chet Holmgren is a testament to that fact.
Holmgren's versatility on offense allows him to be more fluid with his game, while remaining a rim protector on defense — making him"positionless" — which, according to Thunder coach Mark Daigneault, shouldn't affect his impact in the slightest. Over the summer, Holmgren was able to talk with other current NBA greats, the most notable of which was Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, who sits in a vaguely similar position.
“A lot of our talks had to do with the game itself of basketball and how do we do this, how do we do that,”“A lot of questions being asked from me about the game because he’s seen it all and done it all and knows what it takes."
