This week Old Navy announced it had hooked up with Postmates for deliveries of its apparel for the holiday season. Though it’s described as a limited test, there are suggestions it could become a more permanent fixture for both companies. Right now the promise is delivery within a day with a surcharge of $8.99 . Old Navy says it will deliver within a nine-mile radius of “select” stores.
For Postmates, the appeal of these general merchandise and apparel tie-ins is to expand its offerings beyond just food and grocery. Postmates is in danger of becoming an also-ran in that segment of the business, trailing industry leaders DoorDash, UberEats and Grubhub.
