is set to provide Galveston residents who've traveled to H-E-B and Walmart something they haven't had in a hot minute: A closer option.
Charles Lehnhoff's new concept is taking over a space in the historic Hendley Building, once occupied by Old Strand Emporium. The latter closed after its owners declined to renew the lease.HAUNTED RESTAURANTS:"There's nothing in downtown that has quick purchasing power for residents. There's no farm produce, no eggs," he said."They have to travel all the way to H-E-B or Walmart, and not all of them have transportation.
According to Lehnhoff, Oleander will be a mix of an old country store, a grocery and a restaurant. Customers can expect fresh produce, meats, cheeses and a rotating menu by chef Bryan Soliz. Soliz was a finalist on Food Network's"The Great American Food Truck Race." "I'm letting him be creative with it," Lehnhoff said."I know we're going to have gourmet sandwiches like Katz's Deli in New York. Basically sandwiches that can feed you for two days."
