Musician Oliver Anthony clarified his feelings for President Joe Biden in what he called his"last post about politics."
Anthony responded Saturday to the media coverage of his latest YouTube video, where he said his hit song"Rich Men North of Richmond" was actually"a lot bigger than Joe Biden." He lamented his quote had"been misquoted / misinterpreted" and felt the need to address it in a Facebook post."Corporate news is now trying to twist me into being a Biden supporter," Anthony wrote with a laughing emoji. He claimed he wanted to address Gov.
"Biden is a big part of the issue, bit it runs much deeper," Anthony said."'Rich Men North of Richmond' is about corporate owned DC politicians on both sides. Though Biden's most certainly a problem, the lyrics aren't exclusively knocking Biden, it's bigger and broader than that. It's knocking the system collectively. Including the corporate owned conservative polticans [sic] that were on stage that night.
Anthony is from Farmville, Virginia, which is part of the state's 5th Congressional District, represented by Rep. Bob Good since 2020. His personal politics have largely been speculated as he clarified Friday it was"aggravating seeing people on conservative news try to identify with me like I'm one of them."On the day of the debate, the song was reportedly making $40,000 every day. Three of Anthony's songs were the top three on iTunes.
The musician, who is currently on tour, has more than 4.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, an increase from the 40,000 he had before releasing his latest song.
