One Piece finally clear up a big Haki confusion.

Warning: Contains spoilers for One Piece episode #1072.One Piece episode #1072 recently aired, and it ends one of the biggest misconceptions about Haki. While Armament Haki is typically illustrated by a person’s body or weapon turning black, nothing of the sort ever happened the few times Armament Haki was used pre-timeskip.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The idea of Armament Haki being invisible to people who can’t use Haki has never had any genuine support, and One Piece episode #1072 finally puts that misconception to bed. During Luffy and Kaido’s fight, Kaido remarked that Luffy was using Armament Haki, but there were numerous instances where Luffy’s body was never shown turning black, so this can be seen as confirmation that Armament Haki doesn’t always turn the affected area black.

One Piece Debunks Theories on Armament Haki's Coloration One Piece episode #1072 firmly debunks the idea that Armament Haki always turns a person or a weapon black, but that was already made clear in older stories. The first time Armament Haki was shown to turn something black was when Luffy fought Surume, and Luffy phrased that as a specific technique called Hardening, so black Armament Haki is clearly a specific application of Armament Haki instead of its basic form.

Why Was Black Armament Haki Never Seen In One Piece Before The Timeskip? There’s plenty of evidence in One Piece against the idea that Armament Haki is always black and invisible to anyone who can’t use Haki, but that invites the question of why black Armament Haki was never seen pre-timeskip.

Even if Hardening wasn’t planned out, One Piece is far better with it as a separate technique. Not only does that flesh out Haki better by adding more distinct levels to it, but it avoids the issue of overcomplicating how Haki worked, which was all that happened with the idea that Armament Haki was invisible to anyone who couldn’t use Haki.
