A high of 85 recorded at LAX was one degree warmer than the previous record temperature set for Monday’s date.
Temperatures could remain in the 90s Tuesday in desert regions, but most people in Southern California should expect highs in the 70s and 80s. Those will continue to fall between five and 10 degrees gradually over the next few days. Thursday will be the coldest day of the week, with highs forecast in the 60s in valleys and near the coast.
“Tuesday will still be hot,” Gromberg said. “But temperatures will be close to average Wednesday, and then a little below average Thursday.” Conditions will remain dry, but cloudy skies and moderate winds will accompany the cooling trend, Gromberg said. Gusts could reach speeds of around 50 mph on Thursday along mountains and passes.
Winds shift to an offshore pattern Friday, which will blow warm, dry air across Southern California and disperse a buildup of cloud cover. That will allow temperatures to climb back up to seasonal averages over the weekend.
