The Harris Health System has been vaccinating kids at several schools in advance of the beginning of school. The current county tax rate discussion is my third as president and CEO of Harris Health System.
We hear all this loud and clear when, despite clear evidence of the detrimental impact it has on the stability of our public hospital system, Harris Health System is faced with yet another round of decreased financial support and a reduction in our tax rate. This reduction in support comes even though Harris Health System is the largest public hospital system in Texas, and already receives the lowest tax dollar support per county resident compared to all other large public hospitals in Texas.
The time has come for Harris County to assess the appropriate level of investment in its people and the services essential to ensure a healthy community. I implore our court to come together to fund our public hospital system to the level that it needs, and deserves.
