Opinion: Homelessness won't be eradicated until we address the root causes of economic inequality [Opinion]
Economic inequality is the uneven distribution of wealth, resources and opportunities within a society causing disparities in income, assets and access to essential services like education, health care and housing. This concentration of wealth and power in a relatively few hands limits economic mobility and reduces quality of life for many, perpetuating economic disparities and exacerbating issues like homelessness.
While the ordinance may temporarily address public safety concerns, it does not provide a comprehensive solution to homelessness. We cannot ignore the systemic issues driving individuals onto the streets in the first place.
