Opinion | How could the FBI ignore 4,500 tips about Kavanaugh?

Opinion | glennkirschner2: There is something problematic with the FBI's deciding to hand over the tips to the White House without investigation. It feels like law enforcement's handing bank robbery tips over to those who are in the habit of robbing banks

Such an investigation should have at least two main goals. First, Congress needs to unearth what went wrong and figure out how to prevent it from happening again. Second, Congress should strive for access to any substantive information from the 4,500 tips solicited by the FBI to determine whether any of them screamed out for additional investigation.

The federal government, through the FBI, solicited input on this most consequential issue: who should get a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. With that solicitation comes a responsibility. Anything less, as Sen. Whitehouse and others have commented, seems to make the entire process look like a sham.
