a wearable ultrasound device the size of a postage stamp that uses custom AI “deep learning” algorithms to assess the structure and function of the human heart for up to a full day. A key point: The device works during vigorous exercise, which is when warning signs that the heart is not pumping enough blood are more likely to be found.
It also provides a much more complete gauge of someone’s heart health. Hongjie Hu, a postdoctoral researcher working with Xu at UC San Diego, said, “Real-time image monitoring on the heart tells the whole picture in vivid detail and visual effect.”having taught or been educated at UC San Diego in its history, the La Jolla-based university has long since shown it is a world-class academic facility.
