Opinion: How would San Diegans deal with immigration and border policy? [Opinion]
Even with our history of xenophobia and racism, America remains one of the few countries that continuously draws immigrants from around the world. We should be proud of this. America is what it is today because of immigration and the America of tomorrow will be forged by immigrants as well. We attract the best and the brightest from around the world who believe in the American dream and are willing to risk their lives to have it.
Control the border by any and all means necessary. It remains illegal to walk, swim, fly, drive, etc., across our border without permission. Swift expulsion for those who enter illegally and deny re-entry for lawbreakers. Require sponsorship for all those who do not have obvious means to support themselves. There are powerful business interests that want cheap labor. Require guarantees that adequate housing, medical care, food, basic necessities or income will be provided for at least five years. The taxpayer should not bear the brunt of these costs.
The UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency, processes migrants and works closely with U.S. government agencies and NGOs responsible for resettling refugees in this country. Also established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration works in all aspects of migration, promoting international cooperation on migration issues and providing humanitarian assistance to migrants in need.
The most important solution centers on the need for all countries to promote peace to prevent the horrific consequences of war, environmental devastation, and the pain from losses, injuries and PTSD. All nations desperately need to embrace this belief and ensure its implementation. The survival of our world depends on this dedication to the prevention of war and adherence to enduring peace. The onus should be more on the individual than the state.
Who will your children see when they look into your eyes? What good will you have to expect from anyone, seeing how much you’ve done for others when the slightest effort could have made so much of a difference? Maybe giving is better than receiving. I, for one, will not leave it to chance to find out; the stakes are too high to not be a good person.I believe the Biden administration is doing the right thing.
The president is sending troops to the border to help the border patrol with immigration and security.
