While any opinion may provoke a negative response from somebody, Pitts was never off base in his columns and more often than not provided a uniquely incisive perspective on critical issues.
Those who aspire to win a lifetime achievement award from QAnon or who deny that race is still an issue in America could always find something to gripe about. His column was a litmus test for decency that some people failed. I shall miss his column from the Miami Herald through the Houston Chronicle.
