" : I'm a senior citizen and 11-year Houston transplant from New York and Washington. In all my many years living in the much colder climates of those states, I never once experienced any issues with the electric grids not meeting the demands of extreme cold weather. Yet here in Texas even after the tragic experience of last year's catastrophic grid failure we were left wondering once again whether there would be another grid failure.

I, for one, am quite unhappy about paying more for power only to have essentially a portion of my higher payments diverted to politicians as bribes to keep the good times rolling for power producers. Choosing not to expand Medicaid is another example of adopting policies that result in draining consumers' bank accounts as we're forced to financially support their ideological purity in avoiding further entanglements with the Feds. If Texas is part of the United States of America then we should act like it. If we're going to secede from the Union then let's get on with it. It's past time for the Legislature to choose.
