Opinion: San Diegans react to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars [Opinion]
“Academy condemns Will Smith’s actions, launches review”
If the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is looking for explanations as to why the public has lost interest in their “show,” Sunday night’s display of thin-skinned narcissism and hypocrisy is as good a reason as any.Smith should have to hand over his statue Just like a toddler, Will Smith knew that he misbehaved and deserved a “time out.” He wished out loud to the TV audience: “I hope the Academy asks me back next year.”
So I heartily support Will Smith taking action on the spot, as it’s unlikely that the Oscar team would have done anything, then or after the fact.
