Opinion: San Diego rental law changes could end up increasing rents, chasing good landlords away [Opinion]

If I am applying for a rental at the same time as a younger person, who do you think they are going to pick, the person with the two-month end-of-lease penalty or the three-month penalty?

But I have a plan. I will apply for one of those nine-month oceanfront rentals that convert to short-term rentals in the summer. I will offer $100 more than the asking rent so they choose me. Then, come June, when they ask me to leave, I’ll say I want to stay. They will have to pay me three months rent to leave. And the law would allow me to come back in September.Chris Olson
