Re: “Not your average bear” : The bronze-cast grizzly bear that was mounted atop the San Diego Automotive Museum building is impressive, but if one wants to see an actual California grizzly bear, extinct since 1924, a taxidermy mount of the giant animal is on view at the Valley Center History Museum.
The town was originally named Bear Valley to note that in 1866 the largest grizzly in state history was taken down in the community.
