Opinion: Why we are thankful for Fred Korematsu's courage [Opinion]
He had the courage to challenge the U.S. government with his resistance, and then again in the Supreme Court. Throughout his life, he never stopped fighting for justice. Sadly, he passed away in 2005.
In 2010, San Diego Assemblymember Marty Block and Los Angeles Assemblymember Warren Furutani introduced a bill to create the Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution. It passed, and then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed it into law.
