Here’s a career path for you: Software developer to horse massage therapist to app entrepreneur paid Oracle
More than 400 practitioners from 15 countries use Cavanti software to record diagnoses and treatments, and to generate reports and invoices for clients. Users now include chiropractors, massage therapists, physiotherapists, acupuncturists, and veterinarians. The animals treated include horses, dogs, pigs, and even elephants.
Wood rode horses as a child and started riding again in her 30s. While horses were her true passion, the challenge was transforming that passion into a viable career. One day, Wood stumbled across a massage class for horse owners, and she saw how the results clearly benefited her horse, Jack, a now-retired thoroughbred cross. That inspired her to take a certification course and become a professional equine massage therapist.
“I said, ‘Well, why can't I just use an iPad to do that?’" says Wood."I'd built a couple of very small, very simple Oracle APEX apps for businesses before, but nothing particularly clever."Wood's prototype was a timesaver, and it helped differentiate her service.
