Orquesta Akokán's lively concerts and unique style could be the sleeper music event of 2022.
“Half of the joy of doing this is obviously performing,” says Plasse. “But to see people experiencing this, especially after what everyone’s been through during the pandemic, this is a form of medicine to go out and have a communal experience. Sharing this joy is why we do this.”
“I definitely never thought I’d be sitting here four years later having accomplished everything we’ve been able to do,” says Plasse. “At first, it was enough for me to be working with Pepito because I’d always admired him as a singer. “It’s not like we’re J Balvin or Justin Bieber,” Plasse admits. “We’re trying to do something that we believe in but is not part of the cultural conversation right now.”
