The holiday's name was removed from city advertisements for this weekend's rescheduled egg hunts, after a resident raised concerns about the religious associations.

The Easter Bunny attends an Easter egg hunt in April 2014 at Cottingham Stadium in Easton. The word “Easter” has been removed from Easton’sat Nevin Park and Cottingham Stadium, following a complaint from a College Hill resident about the word’s religious associations, Mayor Sal Panto Jr. said during Wednesday night’s city council meeting.

City Administrator Luis Campos said the city’s social media was revised this week to reflect the city’s neutrality on the subject while he waits for the council to decide how to handle the issue, and issues like it. The change set the course of a seven-minute discussion over council members’ definitions of “separation of church and state.”City Solicitor Joel Scheer said he was indifferent to the use of the word, but offered to prepare a set of guidelines regarding the city’s promotion of religious holidays, though it won’t be ready before the weekend, he said.

“As long we don’t contribute money to the advancement of a particular religion or endorse one over the other, that’s what we have to watch out for,” he said.. Both will be held Saturday and are sponsored by the City of Easton Bureau of Recreation and Neighborhood Programs.
