Second win in nine games at Coors Field moves Padres back ahead of Phillies, keeps them two games up on Brewers

“Today was a good one, a great bounceback from yesterday,” Manny Machado said, refering to the Padres’ 4-3 loss in Friday’s series opener. “We’ve just got to continue with it. ... Just try to get ready to play as good of baseball as we can for the next 10 to 15 days.”Six of the first seven Padres runs were scored by the first four batters in their lineup. Cleanup hitter Jake Cronenworth drove in three runs; Machado, batting third, drove in two.
The Padres went up 2-1 in the third on a leadoff double by Austin Nola and a double by Machado and single by Cronenworth with two outs. “I thought that was gonna be a triple for sure,” Darvish said through interpreter Shingo Horie. “Even Grish, I didn’t think he would make that one. But he did. That was that was a huge, huge catch.”
On Sunday, the teams meet for the final time this season. It will be the Padres’ final road game, as they finish the regular season with nine games at Petco Park.
