Blake Snell says he feels 'great,' Bob Melvin 'skeptical' lefty will avoid injured list
Padres players and coaches, most wearing heavy hoodies and with stocking caps covering their heads as they stood on the field before batting practice, kept turning to look up at the flags that rim the Oracle Park roof.Even in a city where a strong breeze is practically ubiquitous, longtime observers could not recall the wind whipping and swirling at this ballpark as strongly as it was Monday.
Melvin would know. He not only grew up across the bay in Menlo Park and managed the Oakland A’s from 2011 to ’21, he played catcher for the Giants from 1996 to ’98. That’s when their home was a howling old stadium on a tiny peninsula known as Candlestick Point.Blake Snell did not play catch Monday, but he said he felt “great” after moving around on the field for a time Monday afternoon.
“We’ll probably make a determination tomorrow,” Melvin said Monday. “I don’t know. I want to leave it open. I’m a little skeptical based on the fact that he had to be scratched yesterday. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself, and I want him to have some input.”
