Campusano had been trending toward being available off the bench, but the Padres instead placed him on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain. Catcherwas transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster.
Campusano had not played since jamming his right ankle on Sunday, leaving the only other catcher on the active roster —Sullivan is hitting .346/.414/.346 in 10 games since he returned to the team this month.since the Padres drafted him in the 30Machado is out of the lineup for the first time since Tuesday. With the math officially ending the Padres season on Friday he could have played his last game of the season.
The Padres can secure a winning season with a sweep. A win today will move them above .500 for the first time since May 10. They are 18-7 in September after going 10-18 in August.
