Tim Hill throwing error contributes to three-run inning in Pirates' comeback; Trent Grisham and Ha-Seong Kim hit home runs, but Padres lose fifth straight game
The Pirates completed a comeback from four runs down to beat the Padres 5-4 and complete a three-game sweep by scoring. Pittsburgh scored three runs in the seventh inning, one of them because Tim Hill threw a ball down the right field line instead of holding onto it.
Hill, who on Saturday was charged with five unearned runs when he threw away two balls in the seventh inning of an 8-3 loss to the Nationals, relieved Joe Musgrove at the start of the seventh Thursday with a 4-2 lead. Hill was replaced by Luis García, who got Andrew McCutchen on a groundout before Henry Davis lined a single to right field to drive in the go-ahead run.
The Padres have just 14 comeback victories this season and are 2-35 in games in which they trail after seven innings.
