A partnership between the state community college system and Alabama Office of Apprenticeship now allows more students to gain paid, on-the-job experience while working toward a degree. All apprentices participating in state-registered programs will be paid while they are training on the job, will have the remainder of their tuition paid by their employer, and can transition directly into full-time work after they earn their credentials.
State leaders say apprenticeships can help open doors for more degree-seeking Alabamians and can also fill needed spots in the state’s workforce. “We cannot work in a one-size-fits-all model when it comes to serving residents as their community college, so we focus on more than just the training that helps our students be competitive in the workforce – we take a look at what we can do to create the most seamless means necessary for success,” ACCS Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker said. “Alabama is a great state for workforce development.
