BEIJING - China’s central bank governor Yi Gang said the country’s current interest rate level is appropriate, the financial magazine Caixin reported on Tuesday.
Chinese policymakers are keen to fend off a sharper slowdown in the world’s second-largest economy that has been pinched by a bruising trade war with the United States. “Overall, our current interest rate level is appropriate,” Yi said. “Cutting interest rate will mainly deal with the danger of deflation, but price changes in China remain moderate.”The PBOC has kept the benchmark lending rate unchanged since October 2015.
