James Gunn brought the stunt coordinator for Peacemaker, Wayne Daglish, over to the MCU to work on GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3
James Gunn has revealed that he hired the stunt coordinator from Peacemaker to work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The director made his DCEU debut last year with the premiere of The Suicide Squad in August. His latest offering, Peacemaker, is currently streaming on HBO Max, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will hit theaters next year.
Peacemaker catches up with the titular hero after his nearly-mortal injury during the climax of The Suicide Squad. Suffering a gunshot wound to the neck during the mission to Corto Maltese in his last adventure, Peacemaker is awoken by Amanda Waller and her team for a new mission. Along the way, he is paired up with Adrian Chase a.k.a Vigilante , as well as his trusty companion Eagly.
My friend Wayne Daglish & I had such a great time doing the fight choreography & stunts for PM that I hired him on #GotGVol3. Wayne came recommended to me from @ZackSnyder #peacemaker #PeacemakerParty — James Gunn January 14, 2022 So, while Gunn has been working very hard on his comic book projects over the last years, and by his own account needs a break, he clearly has made some friends along the way. Daglish is his most recent hire to make the jump from one Gunn project to another, crossing the line from DC to the Marvel world. In fact, the stunt coordinator came highly recommended by former DC director Zack Snyder, who is a friend and collaborator of Gunn’s.
For many fans of Gunn’s work, it will be interesting to see how this hire affects the action and stuntwork in his next Marvel film. Peacemaker is decidedly more grounded than the action seen in the Guardians movies, so Daglish could bring some street-level brutality to the cosmic Marvel world. Gunn has previously said Guardians of the Galaxy 3 isn't what fans expect. Perhaps that will translate not just to his storytelling choices, but also the way he stages the action sequences. .
