Pearland ISD's Dawson and Pearland high schools had a total of 20 students that advanced to state, and 14 Alvin ISD students from Manvel, Shadow Creek and Alvin high schools were chosen.
Although students vying for the honor can get assistance from private lessons, teachers and other classmates, they are responsible for their own preparation.In February, the students will participate in three days of rehearsal directed by nationally recognized conductors before performing for thousands in San Antonio at the annual TMEA Clinic and Convention, the nation's largest music educators convention.
At regional auditions, individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part.
