Following the success of HBO's The Last of Us, one thing that is unclear is whether Pedro Pascal's character Joel will meet the same fate in season 2 that he did in The Last of Us Part II. Based on the 2013 video game of the same name, The Last of Us takes place in a post-apocalyptic America that has been overrun by a Cordyceps virus, which turns people into zombie-like creatures.
While Craig Mazin, the show's co-creator, hasn't shared any major plot points, it has been confirmed that The Last of Us season 2 will be following the events of The Last of Us Part II. Based on the sequel game, that would mean a greater focus on Ellie and her personal journey. However, there's a very good chance that The Last of Us season 2 will make changes to Part II's story considering how divisive the game was, especially the decision to make Abby a playable character.
When asked about whether Joel will be killed off in the second season of The Last of Us, Pascal seemed unsure, telling Variety, "I don't know. I think Part Two has more leeway. It seemed to be a different immersive experience, while things must happen for the central narrative to occur. It seems it's a little bit more open.
Pascal Is In Favor Of Blind Casting In Movies & TV Shows In the same interview with Variety, Pedro Pascal shared that he's also looking forward to more blind casting in movies and TV shows. He said, "I think that change is really important and that the best way to continue representation is just casting a person into a role that isn't limiting a character to a racial identity. Especially if it's an IP we're familiar with or a book.
