Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Banquet held Sunday evening
Sunday evening to highlight community leaders making an impact on people of all different races and backgrounds in central Pa.
Love’s story begins in Jacksonville, Fla. in the 1920s, when less than 60 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, she was a young girl attending the prestigious Boylan-Haven Boarding School. She went on to enroll at Fisk University, one of the leading historically Black colleges and universities of the time, where she excelled in mathematics. It’s also where she joined the first Black college sorority in America, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
Theo Braddy currently serves as a member on the National Council on Disability. Braddy was one of the five people from across the nation appointed by President Biden last Sept. But before taking on national council, the longtime advocate from central Pennsylvania,At the age of 15, he became a person with a disability due to a high school football accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down.
In 2021, Governor Wolf appointed him to serve on the State Board of Vocational Rehabilitation. In 2022, Braddy was selected by Senator Robert Casey, Jr., as one of four Black leaders in Pennsylvania who has demonstrated power and persistency in overcoming challenges and creating meaningful change in the State, and his contribution was acknowledged on the Senate Floor at a Congressional Hearing.
The 18-year-old is also active in many organizations. Stokes was the first president of PA Cyber’s Youth Ambassador Club, president of the DECA Club, technology officer in student council, and a National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society member. She’s also an archonette Harrisburg resident and civil rights icon Homer Floyd has been involved in civil rights for 50 years dealing with racial segregation, school integration, equal pay for women, and the resurgence of hate groups.
