Jeffrey Brownson sued after he lost his job as an associate professor in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences when he was not granted tenure.

Brownson’s transgender status and alleged gender dysphoria disability were immaterial to the tenure decision, according to Penn State. Brownson, who had been a faculty member since 2007, was involved in the development of Penn State’s solar photovoltaic system that produces 2,500 megawatts of energy. The former professor is seeking unspecified damages for wrongful termination and sex and disability discrimination.

It also contends administrative remedies were not exhausted as to the hostile work environment claim.
