Four smoke detectors inside the row home that caught fire Wednesday morning in Fairmount were not operational, according to fire officials. The fire inside the Philadelphia Housing Authority property left 13 people dead, including seven children.

Philadelphia Housing Authority President & CEO Kelvin A. Jeremiah released a statement on the fire and smoke detectors on Wednesday afternoon. An investigation into the cause of the fire and why the smoke detectors did not work is ongoing with the Philadelphia Fire Department and Fire Marshal's Office. 13 people have died, including seven children, following a fire inside of a Philadelphia Housing Authority row home in the city's Fairmount neighborhood on Wednesday morning.
