Phoenix Rising blew an early lead, but held on to collect a point in a draw with Louisville City Saturday.
Louisville City would begin to attack consistently throughout the rest of the first half, forcing mistakes by Rising. A crucial penalty by defender Alejandro Fuenmayor occurred late in the first half. That penalty led to a 41The Rising defense up to that point had been playing excellent. Goalkeeper Rocco Rios Novo had two impressive first half saves, while the rest of the formation held strong.
Offensively, Rising were attacking strong with three corner kicks in the first half. The strong attack continued early in the second half with two shots in the 47minutes. Two more early corner kicks looked like great opportunities but did not equate to scores. They finished the game with eight corner kicks.
A trend in the second half for the Rising were shots that were very close to turning into goals. The Louisville defense stood strong as they kept the Rising out of scoring position. “We tweaked a few things at halftime, especially with the positioning of our wingers. It worked. It created a lot of chances and again it hurts because I think we deserved a lot more than we got tonight.” Guerra said regarding the opportunities in the second half.minute by Dylan Mares.
