A small airplane crashed on Fourth Street in New Cumberland on Sept. 17, 1983. The crash killed the four people in the plane but no on on the ground.
On a slightly cloudy Saturday in mid-September the temperature was a mild 70 degrees.
The plane came down on the street — missing rows of houses on either side and people at nearby Memorial Park. Killed in the crash were the pilot, James Karl, 20, of Wellsville; and the three passengers, Harold L. Stone, 43, of Shiremanstown; his son, Jeffrey, 12; and Jeremiah Minahan Jr., 25, of Dillsburg.
