A 36-year-old woman was arrested this week in connection with an alleged sexual assault against a Piedmont High School student last week, authorities said.
According to police, officers learned of the assault last Thursday against a 17-year-old boy near Piedmont High School’s Binks Rawlings Gymnasium between 3:30 and 4 p.m..
Investigators later spoke directly with the victim and a family member about what happened, and began a search for the suspect. In a statement Tuesday, police said officers who had learned the suspect had been seen near the 700 block of Warfield Avenue in Oakland’s Grand Lake neighborhood found her outside a home Monday and took her into custody.
Police said the suspect, who was booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of oral copulation with a minor, was listed in custody Tuesday afternoon, but a county records check Tuesday evening appeared to show she had bailed out. Investigators have presented information to the Alameda County district attorney’s office, who will weigh charges in connection with the case.Contact George Kelly at 408-859-5180.
