Police said six to seven people were fighting in the hallway, leading to a situation that spiraled out of control on Tuesday
Police had to use pepper spray to break up one chaotic fight as multiple altercations were reported Tuesday at Groveport Madison High School.
Shortly after returning from a field trip, a small number of students were involved in a verbal altercation around 12:30 p.m., which was broken up before it could escalate into a fight, Principal Duane Bland said in a email letter sent to parents. Adams said school administrators received blows as they tried to interject themselves in the fight and end it. A large crowd assembled around the six to seven students fighting, he said, making it impossible to distinguish participant from spectator.“At that point in time, our officers assessed the situation was getting quickly out of hand because of the amount of people,” Adams said. “Using any type of force or pepper spray is our last resort.
Bland said that the school will take the conduct of the students involved seriously, and “will take firm action to address their behaviors.”
