One of the Jan. 6 select committee's hearing detailed how former President Donald Trump chose not to act to quell the Capitol attack. The committee is expected to release its final report later this month.

On Twitter, they see the riot unfold outside. 1:49 p.m.: A D.C. police commander declares a riot at the Capitol.Around 2 p.m.: White House Counsel Pat Cipollone said he along with Ivanka Trump, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and others were trying to get Trump to put out a statement.

2:24 p.m.: Trump tweets, "Mike Pence didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our country and our Constitution, giving states a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!"

"Hey Mark, The president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home," Fox News host Laura Ingraham messages at 2:32 p.m.
