The mid-engined sportscar jointly developed by Porsche and Volkswagen in the late '60s gets modernized with extensive visual and mechanical modifications
The Porsche 911 is the most popular base for a restomod these days but UK firm Fifteen Eleven Design chose what is widely considered to be Stuttgart’s underdog for their latest project. The team transformed the mid-engined Porsche 914 from 1969 into a desirable sportscar thanks to the carbon fiber body, the Cayman S engine transplant, and the significantly revised chassis setup.was originally announced in 2021 and is now finally ready for production.
More important changes lie under the skin as power comes from a modern 3.8-liter flat-six, sourced from the 987 Cayman S. The mid-mounted engine received steel internals, forged pistons, and a Life Racing ECU, allowing it to produce between 380-400 hp transmitted to the rear axle via a 6-speed manual. For comparison, produced up to 109 hp in its most powerful guise with the old 2.0-liter six-cylinder engine.
