Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, former Vice President Mike Pence and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds will attend.
Although Democrats have indicated they're interested in putting an end to caucuses and stripping Iowa of its place at the front of the presidential nominating calendar, Republicans have not. State party leaders have said they intend to carry on as usual, hosting the nation's first-in-the-nation caucus.
The event is hosted by the Family Leader, a Christian conservative organization that describes its mission as "inspiring Christ-like leadership in the home, church and government." The group is deeply involved in Republican politics across the state and routinely provides a platform for current and future candidates.
"From pastors, authors and entertainers to thought leaders and elected officials, the Summit's star-studded lineups through the years are a recognition of the prominence Iowa plays in the national discussion and the unique stage the Summit provides to explore how faith impacts every sphere of life," Family Leader President and CEO Bob Vander Plaats previously said in a statement.
However, the group has drawn the ire of Democrats, who criticize, among other things, its approach to the LGBTQ community. In 2019, no Democratic presidential candidate accepted the group's invitation to speak at its summit.“The former Vice President and Gov. Reynolds should be ashamed to be speaking at this event hosted by an anti-LGBT hate group,” Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa, said in a statement.
